Golden Lion Tamarin Day 2023 Photo Contest - UPDATED

YOU are invited to celebrate conservation of this tiny endangered primate along with Save the Golden Lion Tamarin (SGLT), Associação Mico Leão Dourado (AMLD), and the 165 zoos and aquariums around the world who are partners in ensuring a future for the golden lion tamarin species.

Entry for the 2023 International GLT Day Photo Contest is now open and we encourage all nature lovers to submit entries that showcase this tiny but mighty monkey – no matter your photo skills level. There is no cost for photo submissions.

Here are the details:

  • Email your photos of golden lion tamarins to contact@savetheliontamarin.org by July 17, 2023.

  • Write “Photo contest” on the email “Subject”.

  • Photos of golden lion tamarins must be taken in a zoo or aquarium facility only – new photos of GLT in the wild will not be eligible.

  • Participants can submit up to 3 entries — one per category:

Solo pic: Photos of a solo (1) golden lion tamarin.

Group pic: Photos of two (2) or more golden lion tamarins (ex., family group).

You-be-the-GLT pic: Doppelgangers, which means any photo of golden lion tamarins matched by a photo of one or more persons imitating the behavior - same pose, gesture or faces as the GLTs.  In this category:

    • You need to submit both photos: #1) GLT(s) and #2) people imitating the GLT(s) in photo #1.

    • Only photo #2 (people imitating the GLTs) will be judged and needs to be an original.

    • Photo #1 can be any photo – with proper credit; it can be a previously published photo (including wild GLTs) or a new photo taken specifically for this contest (Zoo & Aquarium only)

    • Examples below.

  • Submit photos as high-resolution JPG/JPEG files. File size cannot exceed 20mb.

  • Include in the submission the name and homebase of the photographer and where the photos were taken (name of the Zoo/Aquarium or site in Brazil).

  • Submission indicates photographers give the right to SGLT and AMLD to use their photos (with proper credit) on our websites, social media, in publications, and in other educational and informational materials.  In the case of You-be-the-GLT pics, please also include the names of the people in the photos.

The photo contest is one of the highlights of GLT Day. Three winners per category will be announced on GLT Day, August 2nd 2023, on SGLT (savetheliontamarin.org) and AMLD (micoleao.org.br) websites and social media.

Winners will have trees planted in their names in the Atlantic Forest of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Growing trees is vital to restore, connect, and protect GLTs in their Atlantic Forest home.
